Our club is involved in a variety of projects that involve fundraising, community service, and assisting children locally and worldwide.
Camp Limberlost - Our Signature Project
Below are our current club projects:
Camp Limberlost, our signature service project, including securing the facility, working with the schools for camper nominations, obtaining food donations, organizing the home visits, transporting the campers to and from camp, Kiwanis night at camp, and more. Our camp is one of the longest continuously running community service projects in Kiwanis International. It truly does take a village to plan and execute this week-long camp. If you want to relive your camp days and make a difference in the lives of 90 youngsters, join this committee.
COMMUNICATIONS collects, writes and edits information from weekly Club meetings, the board and committee chairs to share among Club members through the Builder, the Club website and social media; sends information to Club members at the request of the Board or committee chairs. This is a great way to develop reporting skills, use your technical expertise; and, unlike some of our fundraisers and projects, it requires little physical activity.
The ELIMINATE PROJECT works with Kiwanis International and other local clubs to raise awareness and funds for this new world wide service project – to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus in forty countries – running through 2012. Kiwanis International eradicated iodine immunity deficiency in the ‘90s. This new project with UNICEF provides another opportunity to make a difference in the world. Mother’s Day Flower Sale in May – from securing the location to tent rental, from coordinating flowers with a local supplier to staffing the event. This is a newer fundraiser for our club and members have really had a good time planning and then working this event. Join in the fun.
The HARRY RIDDLE GOLF OUTING Annual fundraising golf outing to remember long-time member Harry Riddle and to support the On-Track Scholarship program. It’s an opportunity for a good time for a good cause. Two $1000 On-Track Scholarships are awarded annually to local high school students who have overcome adversity and are entering college.
INTERCLUB visits to other Kiwanis Clubs in our division, welcomes and sits with visiting Kiwanis and K-Family club members who attend our meetings. While it’s not necessary to attend each of our interclub outings, when you do, you will be able to compare and contrast our club and see that we are living our mission to serve the children of the world.
KIWANIS ONE DAY a service project in which our club and our Sponsored Leadership clubs (Circle K and Key Club) participate in the spring. In previous years we have worked at East Bay Camp or Timberpointe, where our Camp Limberlost has been held. This is a fun way to learn the needs of our community and rally the troops for a fun morning…and plan a social time to follow.
MARKETING is responsible for building the club brand, publicizing club news and events through all media sources.
If you want to help our club shine in the community’s eye, this could be your committee. Promote the club and our commitment to help change the world one child and one community at a time.
SWEET CORN CIRCUS: Club members help by serving and selling corn, including ticket sales. This project serves as a fundraiser for the club.
PANCAKE DAYS organizes all aspects of the annual pancake and sausage meals served at the BPCA on a Saturday and Sunday in February.
Our longest running fundraiser, this is an institution in our community and in our Club. Learn the stories that have become famous over the years.
Weekly Programs are speakers from businesses, sports, nonprofit, education at weekly meetings who provide a program on a topic of current or historical interest identifies members to introduce and respond to the speakers.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR is held in conjunction with Pancake Days in February.
SPONSORED LEADERSHIP provides guidance and support to our K-Family clubs, including Circle K (for college students, currently at IWU and ISU) and Key Clubs (for high school students, currently at BHS).
YOUNG CHILDREN PRIORITY ONE supports the Kiwanis International initiative, seeking proposals and determining fund distribution and activities for children pre-natal through age 5. Help to make a difference for the youngest members in the community.
Social activities for Club members and guests. In recent years, activities have included outings to The Barn, a Normal Cornbelters game, the Illinois Shakespeare Festival, college sporting events; and backyard get togethers. If you want to get to know our members and their families outside of club meetings, help plan these fun social activities.
