Following Rick Tindall's invigorating invocation, Andy Morgan introduced Paul
Palazzolo, Kiwanis International Executive Director. Paul emphasized that the service club movement in the US isn't dead nor is it dying but there are five key things clubs need to focus on to succeed.
Service. Clubs need to be engaged in the practice of giving back to the
community. Besides our traditional events, we need to actively engage in finding
additional ways to help the community through new service projects.
Fun. Having fun with members of your service club is critical. Sometimes, that
means planning for it through an outing, social gathering, etc.
Market your Presence. Talk about all the great things the club does, share it on
social media, tout it. Tell everyone in the community what Kiwanis is doing by
being actively engaged with the website, social media, and local
publication/media presence.
Membership Development. Continuously encourage new people to join the club.
Approximately 8‐12% of current membership turns over annually so efforts in
membership have to be proactive in that regard to replace that turnover along with
growing it. May is Membership Month….try a fun contest or challenge amongst
current members. Membership strength always has to be on our mind to continue to
make a positive impact.
Kiwanis Family Responsibility. We need to fulfill our responsibility to the Kiwanis
family of organizations by supporting and nurturing them, so they remain within our
service club organization.
Paul also reminded us that this year's Kiwanis International Convention is being held July
3‐6 in Denver and encouraged attendance from each club.
